AUCTIONS
We hold regular auctions of Antiques and Fine Art, Collectors items and 20th Century Design. Each sale is divided into specialised categories, which includes ceramics and glassware, Oriental works of Art, sculpture, militaria, musical instruments, toys, treen, books and ephemera, antique maps, oil paintings, watercolours and antique prints, clocks, barometers and scientific instruments, watches, jewellery, silver, rugs, textiles and furniture.
All of our auctions are fully listed on our website on the internet with full colour illustrations to help our buyers from around the world as well as from London and all four corners of the UK.
We produce a well informed catalogue that is sent out to clients prior to the auction days.
We advertise forthcoming sales in the major national antiques publications as well as the Sussex press.
As a service to our clients we also offer a general sale of modern and household furniture and effects, soft furnishings, electrical goods and kitchen appliances. This enables us to offer a complete house clearance service to our clients from Country Houses to Flats which is particularly appreciated by Solicitors, Executors and families when dealing with local estates.
PROBATE VALUATIONS
The law surrounding probate requires an accurate and detailed evaluation of the value of an estate carried out by a qualified and regulated valuer. As a member of The National Association of Valuers and Auctioneers (NAVA) we are bound by strict codes of practice and conduct and of course are recognised experts. As we understand that this can also be a very difficult time for the family we are able to work closely with your solicitor to reduce the amount of your time and ease any pressures to conduct the affairs efficiently, sympathetically and swiftly.
PRIVATE VALUATIONS
Our auctioneers/valuers are pleased to offer FREE pre-sale valuations of your items or collections that you are considering selling by auction. We can either make an appointment to visit you in the convenience of your own home or we can make an appointment for you to bring your items to us at the saleroom. We can arrange for our carriers to collect your items and deliver them safely to our saleroom.
INSURANCE VALUATIONS
With rising crime statistics in England, burglaries especially have risen dramatically, it seems incredible that people are still under the mistaken impression that ‘it wont happen to me’! It is very traumatic to lose an item of immense personal value but to also lose out financially because the item has not been insured or adequately insured is worse still.
We regularly carry out Insurance valuations at competitive rates. Many customers re-value on a yearly basis to keep in touch with inflation and market trends. We are also able to carry out home visits to highlight items of value that perhaps homeowners were not even aware that they had. All the objects are listed, together with their appropriate values, which can then be sent to the Insurance Company. Remember, to lose something sentimental is tragic enough, to be unable to replace its value is catastrophic.
HOUSE CLEARANCE
Our auctioneers are pleased to offer free advice on the clearing of properties and are vastly experienced in dealing with estates of all types and sizes. We will initially prepare a valuation for you, identifying the valuable items and providing an overall figure for the entire contents, as well as outlining all the costs involved. We then organise our team of highly experienced registered carriers to clear the property, selling the saleable items through our auctions and disposing of the unsaleable effects at the local amenities site, leaving an empty and tidy property for sale or occupation.
COMMISSION AND TELEPHONE BIDS
If it is not possible for you to attend one of our sales but you would like to leave a bid then we have two ways of bidding for you.
Commission bids are written bids that are left with our head porter with the lot number and the highest amount that you wish to bid up to and he will bid as if he were you. There is no charge for this service and we find that it is very popular.
If there is a particular item that you wish to acquire and you cannot make it to the auction then you may consider telephone bidding. We ring you and bid on your behalf for that lot as it is being sold. You can normally hear the bidding and feel part of the auction. If the item reaches more than you would have left as a commission bid then you have the choice to go higher. Again there is no charge for this service and we need a days notice so that we can reserve you a telephone line.
